Taking part in cardiovascular exercise can help to relieve the pressure in your eye (intraocular pressure), which helps to keep the retinal ganglion cells healthy and protected. Cardio exercise also helps to increase the flow of blood around the body, meaning that the optic nerve and retina will also get more oxygenated blood. Because of this your overall eye health and vision can improve, but it is especially beneficial for people that suffer from glaucoma.
A lot of vision problems and eye diseases are brought on by high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Regular exercise will help to reduce both these problems and in turn improve your overall eye health and vision.
Exercise does not have to be a long a strenuous activity. Something as simple as a 25-minute walk around the park 4 times a week can help you and increase blood flow. If walking is not for you can try something like swimming, cycling, running, dancing and many more.
